10 must do's

We have listed 10 must-do’s which will make you a better dancer and help you to enjoy your classes at New Stars Dance School!
  • Listen to your teacher – Your teacher is an experienced dancer and if you listen to their advice, you will see the results! Your teacher wants to impart all of their knowledge, not only the steps for a routine
  • Ask questions – If you aren’t sure about a step or sequence, ask away! There are always other students who will want to know the same thing. It’s much better to ask the teacher than continue to feel unsure
  • Safety first – With all types of exercise, safety is key. Remember to wear the right clothing, eat and drink before the class, and do your warm-up properly. These precautions will all prevent injury and keep you dancing to your heart’s content
  • Be brave! – Sometimes we have to try things that we find nerve-wracking, whether that is speaking to other students or learning new movements. Just remember that everyone is trying the same things together and your teacher is always looking out for you.
  • Be aware of your surroundings – Practicing good spatial awareness will keep you injury-free and improve your dance skills. Whether you are dancing in the classroom or at home, always stay aware of the space and objects in it. This will prepare you for dancing with others in class or for performing on stage
  • Imagine how your movements look – When you are performing, there will not always be a mirror there to check your movements in. Instead, try to imagine how your body looks in your mind. This will improve your hand-eye coordination and make you a better performer
  • Dance whenever you can – Practice makes perfect so dance whenever and wherever you can. Practice your routines down the hallway, in your bedroom, in the backyard…you name it – you can dance in it!
  • Dance like nobody is watching – Dancing in front of others can be a little scary, especially if you aren’t used to it. It’s important to remember that everyone can feel like this. You will always dance best if you try to imagine that you are the only person in the room.
  • Perform like a star – It can be tempting to only give 50% in class when you are learning a routine. However, the most effective way to become a better dancer is to give it all you got, whenever you practice. Point those toes and prepare those smiles!
  • Have fun! – This is the most important tip of them all. If you aren’t having fun when you are dancing, neither will the audience
